Phnom Penh is a city with a history. There’s no doubt, people have done terrible things to each other throughout the course of history, but the Khmer Rouge took terror to unthinkable levels. Once the crown jewel of Indochina, Phnom Penh became synonymous with Cambodia’s darkest period and one of the world’s most prolific tragedies. It’s one thing to read about it, but traveling to the “Killing Fields” and walking overtop mass graves is something else entirely.
