The Hit List
I’m often asked about my favorite destination. But like children, you can never single out just one. The truth of the matter is this...my favorite place in the entire world is the one I just visited, or perhaps it’ll be the one I’ll be traveling to next. So instead, I thought I’d highlight some of Travcoa’s most popular journeys that are favored by travelers like yourself. Perhaps you’ll agree, or maybe your list will be entirely different. We’d love to hear which Travcoa journey — or journeys — top your own bucket list.
Cultures in the Cradle of Humankind: Ethiopia — Explore a history written since the very birth of mankind. An emerging travel destination, Ethiopia has charted its own course through the ages and its unique heritage remains intact and untouched. From the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela to the colorful tribal market of Kay Afer, the crocodiles of Lake Chamo to the Mursi tribeswomen with their clay lip discs, there are few remaining places on the planet as genuine and exotic as Ethiopia.
Legendary China — Follow the silk route to a land of jade and dragons. Stroll atop the Great Wall or hop into a rickshaw though the ancient winding hutongs. See an army of life-sized terra cotta warriors, chariots and horses once entombed in the earth, and explore the world’s largest palace complex, once forbidden to all but the royal family. There are water buffalo plowing rice paddies and junks with battered sails cupped like clamshells to catch the wind. From UNESCO World Heritage Sites to timeless scenes of ordinary life,Legendary China lends a peak inside the fascinating traditions and storied history of one of the world’s richest cultures.
Enlightened India — A cacophony of sights and sounds, India is at once vibrantly colorful and spiritually serene. Discover Jaipur, the “pink city,” as the morning sun rises over the rose-hued sandstone buildings. Wander in the rock-cut temples of the Elephanta Caves or travel by rickshaw to Varanasi to observe the faithful enter the sacred waters of the Ganges. From the changing light that paints the Taj Mahal to the 85 temples that make up “The City of the Gods,” India is a feast for all your senses.
Mystery, Legend & Tradition: Romania & Bulgaria — It’s easy to get the feeling that you are being watched in Sibiu. The narrow slit windows and “yawning” arched doorways of the town’s homes are known as the “the eyes of Sibiu.” On our Mystery, Legend & Traditions journey you’ll explore unspoiled villages like Sibiu along with centuries-old traditions and the romantic landscapes of Romania and Bulgaria. Stroll the grand boulevards and café-lined sidewalks of Belle Époque Bucharest. Feel the hairs on the back of your neck rise as you learn the guarded legend of Dracula at Bran Castle. And marvel at Boyana Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most perfectly preserved monuments of east European medieval art.
Wishing you extraordinary encounters,
